Collaborative creative studio Matter No Matter want to work with nonprofits and charities to help spread positive messages. And as champions of positive chance ourselves, we love that at CAF.
Using design and creativity to make a difference is an incredibly powerful tool. And being a collaborative creative studio only adds to that.
The studio uses motion graphics and illustration as it’s tools for communication, and we’ve grouped some examples below.
We asked Matter No Matter about the animation produced with CALM, here’s what they said.
‘Guys Should Be’ was created for the UK based charity ‘The Campaign Against Living Miserably’. Whose sole aim is to raise awareness of male suicide. The single biggest killer of men ages below 45.
Why did you want to produce the animation for CALM?
With Guys Should Be our reasoning was more empathetic. As mid twenties males, we’re both aware of the stresses and expectation that are put on young men, growing up.
It’s also an area we believe is not given enough exposure. And although mental health has taken a gigantic leap into the forefront of the media as of late. For us it meant we could create some work around a topic we both feel is underrepresented. Due to the fact suicide is the biggest killer of young males.
We still live in a society where great pressure is applied to men to uphold themselves in a certain way. With the purpose of the animation being to highlight the stereotypes men face on a day to day basis.
From physical appearance, to fatherhood, internal mental pressure and emotions the aim was to show that ‘strength’. Doesn’t just mean the physical, a ‘provider’ doesn’t just mean having a well paid job. ‘Bravery’ isn’t just about not showing fear. Regardless of what kind of person you are the main point is you..
stay true to yourself and realise breaking the cliche stereotypes men face doesn’t make you any less, or any more of a man. It just makes you… you!
If you happen to be facing anxiety, depression, or any other issues CALM are an incredible charity to reach out to for help, or somebody to talk to.
Can you tell us a bit more about the animation Peaches?
While thousands of Londoners go hungry each day, safe, healthy and usable food is being disposed of as waste. City Harvest collects this nutritious surplus food from all segments of the food industry including restaurants, grocers, manufacturers, wholesalers, hotels and caterers.
The topic of food banks brought the issue into the media in 2016/17 and became a big pushing point during the elections. And as we both live in London we see homelessness & hunger every single day.
We felt it was still an issue that was unrepresented in a way people didn’t know the full extent of the issue. However, art of the reason we also aim to work with charities is for self education and personal growth.
We both never fathomed the sheer number of people in this country, currently 7th richest in the world, who can’t afford to feed themselves, or how much useable food is discarded every year.
Food wastage is a continuous growing problem around the world. More and more food banks being created every passing month and every year.
The UK throws away 1/3 of it’s food.
